Performance Weekend at Singel 372

26/10/18 - 28/10/18

Ellen de Bruijne Projects is pleased to invite you for a weekend of performances at our new location in Amsterdam (Singel 372). As Performance has always been an important part of the program by Ellen de Bruijne PROJECTS, what else could be a better way to inaugurate the new space than a weekend of performances?

For each day of the last weekend of October three artists have proposed a performance: Dora García, Jeremiah Day and Maria Pask.

FRIDAY 26/10 16-19h
DORA GARCIA
Twenty-three million stories

In 2013, Dora García received an invitation to create an “artwork” for a mobile phone app, The London Bookshop Map. Together with the project initiator, Louise O’Hare, and the programmer, Henry Cooke, the artist began work on the Twenty-three million stories project, a robot that combined the sentences in the All the Stories archive to trace out new narrative combinations. This “story machine” is activated every time a user of The London Bookshop Map chose to click on the link “Tell me a story.” It was calculated that the system could produce twenty-three million stories in one or two thousand years with the average frequency of interaction generated by the app.

For the performance during the “new Space” performance weekend, the most recent part of the generated story will be presented in a duration of three hours. If you want to activate a new story and influence the text of the performance visit: http://twentythreemillionstories.org.

Performed by: Jimena Casas, Sjors van Leeuwen and Marieke Peeters

SATURDAY 27/10 20h
JEREMIAH DAY accompanied by BART DE KROON
41 Nights, 16 People

“If the job was done properly, no one would be able to know for sure one way or another,” says one spy to another in Norman Mailer’s “Harlot’s Ghost.” This use of non-fact (anti-fact?) has now spread throughout our institutions, with unknown consequences. Are we ourselves even facts anymore?

Following upon Day’s 2015 lecture at the gallery, PRAVDA II, in this evening Jeremiah Day will attempt a parrallel maneuver or “work-around” in practice of what Day’s colleague Fred Dewey calls the “non-fictional imagination.”

The musician Bart de Kroon will accompany on guitar.

SUNDAY 28/10 14h
MARIA PASK with ANJA NOVAK
You shook me endlessly and still you deny it.

“I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.”

Performers: Maria Pask, Anja Novak, Hanna Ijäs and Tina Jeranko
